Draught Proofing
The benefits of draught proofing include improved insulation, removing rattles, stopping dust and dirt coming in and sound proofing. Our draught proofing system is a discrete method, virtually invisible but very effective. By sealing the gaps that surround a window almost all cold air and draughts can be removed.
As part of our draught proofing service various renovations can also be carried out, including replacing the sash cords, correctly sizing the sashes and making the window open smoothly.
Double Glazing
Yes, it is possible to have wooden double glazed sash windows.
Modern double glazing provides about three times more insulation than single glazed windows. Our double glazing is made with Pilkington K glass. K glass bounces energy back into the room and, when combined with draught proofing, makes a significant improvement to insulation.
If the timber window frames are in good condition it is often the case that new sashes can be made and fitted into the old frames. When fitting replacement double glazed sashes, the frame is renovated and both the old frame and new sashes are fully decorated.
Renovation
Even though many windows are well over a 100 years old, the timber may still be sound. But they may well be just very tired and over painted. We can renovate and decorate the old windows and bring them up to a good standard.
Years of built up paint often need to be burned back to bare timber and then repainted. When redecorating a micro porous paint is used. The benefit of micro porous paint is that it allows the timber to breath and the paint has the ability to expand and contract minimising the possibility of cracking and increasing the time period needed between repainting.
"I thought the windows couldn't be salvaged, but you have managed give them a new lease of life. Many thanks" ... Mr Pickering, London SE27
Replacement Windows
If you require complete replacement we can fit like for like replacement sash windows that match all of the original features of your existing windows.
Since 2002 replacement windows need to comply with building regulations. The primary obligation is that the windows must be fitted with double glazing and meet certain safety criteria. As a FENSA regulated company you would be provided with a FENSA certificate that confirms the regulations have been met, this certificate is required should you sell your home in the future.
Sound proofing
Whether you live on a busy road, under a flight path or suffer from loud neighbours, noise can be a painful problem. We have a number of solutions that can help reduce noise pollution including fitting sound reducing acoustic glass which looks no different to normal glass but significantly reduces sound. In extreme circumstances we can also fit secondary glazing which is the ultimate in soundproofing.
