What areas do you cover?
We currently cover south of the river and central London. We do not cover north London.
Are you FENSA regulated?
Yes, we are FENSA regulated. Should you completely replace your windows you would be receive a FENSA certificate at the end of the installation, you would need to provide this certificate when you sell your home.
Are your windows painted?
All our new windows are fully decorated. The bare timber is first treated with preservative and then fully decorated. We also provide a full renovation and decoration service.
I have single glazed sashes, can I replace these to double glazed?
Yes. It is often possible to change just the sashes from single glazed to double glazed without replacing the frame. However double gazed glass weighs far more than single glazed, the old frame may not be able to support the weight of the new sashes.
Will I need scaffolding?
No, fortunately the construction of a sash windows means that replacement is carried out from inside and does not require scaffolding in most cases.
Can you reglaze my windows with frosted glass?
Yes. Frosted glass is an effective method of providing privacy and is commonly used in bathrooms or other areas that need light but also privacy.
I would like to completely replace my windows, how long does it take?
In general one window a day.
Do I require planning permission to change my windows?
No, however changing your windows will be subject to building regulations which we will comply with.
How much mess is made when replacing windows?
Replacing windows involves a significant amount of work. A sensible precaution will be to remove as many items from the room as possible (ideally everything). If you leave anything in the room dustsheets will be used. Any breakable items should be removed.
Do you replace broken sash cords?
Yes, we can replace sash cords.
The bottom of my window appears to be rotten, can this be replaced or do I need a new window?
The bottom of the window is called the sill. A rotten sill does not necessarily mean that the rest of the window is rotten or needs to be replaced. We can either completely replace the sill or if the area of rot is not extensive we can remove the poor timber and fill with a special epoxy resin filler and make as good as new.
Do you replace broken springs / spiral balances?
Yes, we can replace broken springs / spiral balances. Springs or spiral balances are a modern replacement for cords and weights that often need to be replaced.
Do you have guidance about how much replacing my windows will add to the value of my house?
It is difficult to put a specific figure on the value of putting sash windows back if they have been replaced. However, if you live in an area where most of the windows are sash this does provide an indication that most people living there want sash windows. Having the wrong windows in your house is likely to have a negative effect on the value of your property.
What will happen to the old windows when they have been replaced?
The cost of disposal in a legal and safe manner will be included in the price.
How do I pay?
All replacement windows are made to order, for this reason we require a deposit when you confirm you would like to go ahead. The balance will be due on day of completion. Payment can be made by cheque or money transfer.
What timber do you offer?
We offer both soft and hardwood windows. The majority of timber used is FSC accredited and sourced from managed resources.
